This former Victorian shop and its associated vacant site will soon become part of a modern new build development owned by an innovative charity which supports young people under stress.
42nd Street, an organisation which helps teenagers with counselling and support was granted planning permission in November 2010 to build a new centre on the site next to Coates School.
The charity’s new premises will be connected to the old shop via a walled courtyard. It is hoped the building work will finish in April 2011 with 42nd Street moving in shortly after.
Paul Lakin, Director of Land and Property at the NWDA, commented: “These are exciting plans and ones which resonate with the ambitions for Ancoats. The introduction of such a vibrant organisation as 42nd Street will help to create a thriving community while the restoration of a protected building is excellent as we work to protect Ancoats' unique heritage.”
