This new public square is the centrepiece of the new Ancoats, providing a focal point for people living in, working in or visiting the area to get together.
Around the square are five 'sentinels', inset with artworks by Ancoats artist-in-residence, Dan Dubowitz, and in its centre is a sunken area for performance and play. The name of the square and the inspiration for the artworks comes from the rich history of the textile industry in Ancoats - believe it or not, this outdoor space was where factory workers cut large swathes of material in bygone times.
