With two new Metrolink stops opening in 2011, Newton Heath has got a lot going for it as one of East Manchester’s best-connected residential locations.
Situated half way between Manchester city centre and the M60, Newton Heath has the best of both worlds from an accessibility point of view. Its new Metrolink stop will make it a few minutes travel away from the city, yet it’s equally easy to hop onto the motorway and get around to other areas of Greater Manchester and beyond.
Its eclectic mix of housing stock ranges from traditional post war through to 1970’s houses and maisonettes, with a much sought-after conservation area overlooking the popular Brookdale Park.
Newton Heath district centre has a brace of handy local shops and a new Children’s Centre has already opened with further investment planned.
A range of improvements have created a more attractive shopping environment in Newton Heath. The main high street, Church Street, and All Saints Street have been up-graded with new high quality paving and new benches, bins and bollards and cycle racks. The green space opposite the All Saints Church, has also been improved with better landscaping, paths and seating.
To make the area safer for pedestrians, traffic calming measures have been put in place creating a 20 mile per hour zone and a pedestrian crossing has been installed on Drolysden Street near the children’s centre.
