Frequently referred to as 'Manchester's Taj Mahal' this magnificent gothic building is the masterwork of the famous Victorian architect Edward Pugin.

Once listed as one of the top 100 endangered historic sites in the world, The Monastery dates from 1863 when it was built by Franciscan monks who came to Manchester to serve the local Catholic community. The awe-inspiring and award-winning building is Grade II listed and considered in the top 8% of buildings in England.

In recent years, The Monastery has undergone a £6.5 million restoration to turn it into a superb venue for concerts, conferences, prestigious events and even weddings. It's open to the public every Sunday and during the week there's an ongoing programme of guided tours, concerts and special events. T

All proceeds from events and activities are donated to the Charitable Trust which owns the Monastery. This provides for the maintenance of these magnificent buildings as well as supporting the local community through charitable projects in Education, Skills, Arts and Health.
