East Manchester is blessed with some of the city’s best and most extensive green spaces, from Victorian parks to wildlife havens.
From the planned Victorian greenery of Philips Park, one of the oldest civic parks in the country, to the outdoor activity centre at Gorton Reservoirs, there is a wealth of opportunities to get out and enjoy the fresh air in East Manchester.
Many of East Manchester’s green places have been reclaimed from the city’s old industrial past, set up around canal sides, river banks and old railway lines. With regeneration investment and armies of enthusiastic local volunteers, these areas have been given a new lease of life as places to walk, play and relax, as well as being urban havens for wildlife and plant life.
With most of these outdoor havens less than three miles from the city centre, they are a great environmental resource for the whole city. So put on your walking shoes and take a hike!
