New primary school for New Islington
08/08/2012 - 01/01/0001
One of Manchester’s newest schools – the New Islington Free School – will be created in partnership with one of Manchester’s oldest schools – the Manchester Grammar School.
The new primary school, due to open in either September 2013 or September 2014, will be a Free School which means it will be funded in full by central government but run by an independent charity.
It will deliver a first rate primary education and will be a hub around which the community will grow. Extended opening hours will mean that both adults and children alike will be welcomed to the school to play as well as study.
Manchester Grammar School will have a big role in supporting the new school and as such, it will plan the curriculum, appoint the Headteacher and recruit the academic staff.
Parents of children who will be of Reception age (4 years) through to Year 5 (9 years) in September 2013 are invited to get in touch to register their interest.
Three priority catchments have been identified; the residential area immediately surrounding the School in New Islington, the residential areas immediately adjacent to New Islington and children of commuters who work in the city centre.
